VALEMOUNT – Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Shirley Bond, Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod and Village of Valemount Mayor Bob Smith today officially unveiled the $165,000 upgrade to the local sewage lift station.
“Through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, we were able to support one of Valemount’s priority projects,” said Bond. “This joint investment will help improve the reliability and safety of Valemount’s sewage infrastructure, a benefit to everyone in the community.”
“Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, we are moving in record time and partnering with other levels of government to ensure there are vital improvements made to communities,” said McLeod. “The improvements to Valemount’s waste water system will not only help to stimulate the economy but meet infrastructure needs in the community.”
This project includes enhancements to the Ash Street Lift Station and the installation of remote alarm systems in all of the lift stations within the village. This upgrade will prevent sewage overflows, increase the reliability of the wastewater system and benefit approximately 1,250 people.
“These are important improvements to Valemount’s waste water system,” said Smith. “Provincial and federal Infrastructure Stimulus funding allows us to get to work quickly to improve municipal services for residents of our community.”
The Province and federal government are jointly providing up to $110,000 in funding for the project from the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. The Village of Valemount is investing $55,000. This builds on over $200,000 in joint-federal provincial funding from Towns for Tomorrow for Valemount’s downtown revitalization project, announced in March.
This is one of 174 projects across the province totalling almost $719 million that will stimulate local economies, thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment announced on September 24. The projects are funded under the Province’s three-year, $14-billion capital infrastructure program, which will help build vital public infrastructure in every region of B.C.
