Kamloops (July 23, 2020): Today Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, called on Canada’s Finance Minister to resign.
“Everyday there are more revelations about the scandal involving Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Government and the WE Charity,” MP McLeod said. “So far we have learned that Trudeau and his Finance Minister, Bill Morneau, approved a nearly $1-billion contribution to the real-estate holding-arm of a charity. That charity had paid Trudeau’s family over $300,000 in speaking fees and gave Morneau’s daughter a job.”
“It’s shocking that both Trudeau and his Finance Minister failed to recuse themselves from the Cabinet decision to award the organization the $912-million contract,” said McLeod.
“Further, Bill Morneau admitted to the House of Commons’ Finance Committee yesterday that he accepted $41,000 in illegal travel expenses from WE Charity for two trips in 2017. He waited until the same day he testified before he repaid the expenses,” MP McLeod said. “Bill Morneau has been found guilty of breaking ethics laws before. Now, he’s under investigation for his involvement in Trudeau’s latest scandal.”
“If the Finance Minister does not resign, it is another example of the complete lack of integrity within Trudeau’s Liberal Government,” MP McLeod said.
“Conservatives will continue to hold the Prime Minister and his government accountable. We will not rest until Canadians have answers,” Cathy McLeod concluded.
